sourdough baking must haves

These are a few of what I would consider ‘must haves’ for sourdough baking.

For more in-depth links and lists, as well as exclusive access to videos and other resources, consider a starter set, coming soon!

starter jars

This is what you will put your starter in, and where you will feed the starter in. You’ll need at least two, as you’ll pour discarded starter into the new jar so it can continue to grow.

food scale

You’ll need this to measure your portions of starter, flour, and water, to maintain your starter. You’ll also need it to measure out quantities for your bread. This is the one I have and love!

BREAD FLOUR

This is important!! You’ll use this to feed your starter, and ultimately to bake sourdough bread. All purpose flour will not work the same as bread flour, so make sure to get flour labeled as such.

dutch oven

You’ll need this to bake the bread in. Honestly, any brand will work, but I’d say at least 5 quarts!

proofing set

This includes the proofing bowls (often referred to as ‘banneton baskets’), a scoring lame (the blade), and a bench scraper (which I use to clean to any surface that I bake on).

mixing bowls

Self explanatory! This is what you’ll use to mix your dough. Any set will work, but this is the set that I use and love!
